Daybed Covers – It’s All In The Small Details

Daybed covers need a bit more thought than most people expect, largely because daybeds are shaped very differently from standard outdoor furniture. Getting the right fit is important, as a cover that is too loose will sag, flap in the wind and allow water to pool. Measuring the daybed in its normal setup — including cushions — helps ensure the cover follows the shape properly and sits neatly rather than looking oversized.

Many outdoor daybeds have angled or sloped cushions, with a higher back and a lower front edge. This shape is intentional for comfort, but it also means the cover needs to account for that drop. Using a standard table cover is rarely a good solution, as tables are measured for flat, level tops. On a daybed, the lower front edge causes a table cover to hang loosely and bunch at the front, which looks untidy and makes it more likely to catch wind or hold water.

Securing the cover is just as important as the fit itself. Daybeds are often positioned in open areas such as patios or pool surrounds, where wind can get underneath. Look for covers with proper tie-downs or an elasticated hem so the cover stays in place and maintains its shape. A well-secured cover not only protects the furniture better but also lasts longer, as it’s not constantly being pulled or strained by movement.
